Description
The garden wall enclosing the garden to the south side of Roydon Hall was built in 1576, as indicated by the carved limestone datestone located opposite the entrance door of Roydon Hall. This wall is constructed of red brick in English bond and features a weathered offset with brick-on-edge coping at the top. A square pier located opposite the south corner of Roydon Hall has a pyramid capping made of brick with a sawtooth offset. The wall stands at 2.5 meters high and extends for about 55 meters towards the north-east, where it returns to a height of 1 meter. In front of the main elevation of the house, the wall also reduces to a height of 1 meter and includes an entrance gateway. There is an additional return section to the east of the house, which, while of some interest, is not included in this description due to its fragmentary condition. The parish boundary with Earl Stonham runs through the wall.
