Description

Willow Green Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, likely dating from the 15th century, with alterations from the 17th century. It is a small, three-cell open hall house that has one storey and attics. The building is timber-framed and roughcast, topped with a thatched roof featuring a central red brick chimney and one 19th-century eyebrow casement dormer. Most of the windows are mid-20th century small-pane casements, with two dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The entrance door is framed and boarded, set beneath an open gabled porch supported by posts.

Inside, the open hall retains a complete smoke-encrusted coupled-rafter roof, with signs of a gablet at the right-hand end. The studwork is widely spaced, and a cambered tie-beam from the open truss shows evidence of thick, slightly-curved braces. The parlour cell to the right features heavy exposed floor joists. In the late 16th or 17th century, a large chimney was added in the cross-entry, and an upper floor with stop-chamfered joists was inserted in the hall. The roof to the right was converted to a gable in the 17th century, featuring wind-braced clasped purlins, while the left-hand cell has a butt-purlin roof from the late 17th or early 18th century, which may have been entirely rebuilt.
