Description
Upper Lonsdales Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from around 1600, with an extension added in the 18th century. The building has a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan and stands two storeys tall. It is constructed of timber framing with plaster and features a thatched roof, which is complemented by axial and external gable chimneys made of red brick. Most of the windows are 1980s casements, but several original diamond mullioned windows remain exposed and glazed. The entrance door, which is boarded, is located in a lean-to thatched extension from the 19th century. The farmhouse displays typical fully exposed unmoulded framing and has a wind-braced butt-purlin roof. Inside, there are large back-to-back open fireplaces serving the hall and parlour. A triangular-block ladder stair led from the cross-entry until around 1980. At the left end of the building, there is an original service room. In the 18th century, an additional cell was added to the right, which is also timber-framed and plastered, featuring a gable end of red brick.
