Description

This is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with a later addition from the mid-17th century, originally built as a three-room cross-passage entrance plan. The original layout comprised a hall and a service cell, with a parlour cell added in the 17th century. The house is one storey and attics, although the parlour cell is two storeys high with attics. It is timber-framed and covered in roughcast rendering. The roof is covered in concrete tiles, with a red brick chimney that is mostly roughcast. Most of the windows are modern casements. There is a modern panelled entrance door in a lean-to porch.

The 16th-century section has two bays with widely spaced timber studs and long arched wind-braces. Several original blocked windows retain square mullions. Large, unchamfered floor joists are visible over the hall, although those in the service cell were replaced in the 20th century.

The 17th-century parlour block features on-edge floor joists and a chimney with a lintelled open fireplace to the hall, and arched brick fireplaces in the parlour and the chamber above. The chamber above has an ovolo-moulded fireplace. A 17th-century newel staircase is also present. The roofs were rebuilt in the mid-20th century following a fire. Despite the 20th-century alterations, the house is listed due to its good and early internal features.
