Description
The former stable range located 30 metres west of Moat Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building. This structure, which dates from the early to mid-17th century, originally served as a stable and is now used as an office and warehouse. It features a four-bay stable with a loft above, along with a lower two-bay extension added later in the 17th century to the right. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with exposed studwork and windbraces in a shortened arch form. While the infill panels are plastered, some areas still show weatherboard cladding. The roofs are covered with corrugated iron. The building has 20th-century casement windows and boarded doors at the gable ends. In the upper storey, diamond-mullioned windows are both exposed and glazed. The roof structure includes two tiers of purlins, with the lower tier butted and the upper tier clasped and wind-braced. Notably, raised collar-beams are used at the open trusses instead of traditional tie-beams. This building is included in the listing despite its 20th-century alterations due to its interesting and complete 17th-century framing.
