Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with significant alterations made in the mid 19th century. The building is two storeys high, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. It features plaintiled roofs, which have mid 19th century undulating bargeboards, and red brick chimneys at the rear. The windows are mid 19th century casements. The entrance has a panelled door and is sheltered by a mid 19th century cantilevered open porch, which also has undulating bargeboards and a spike finial. The late 16th century parlour block displays good plain framing, including close-studwork, heavy exposed joists, and a wind-braced butt-purlin in the roof. Part of this section likely has an earlier core but was raised and remodelled in the 18th century. Additionally, a mid 19th century service range was added to the rear, built of red brick with a plaintiled roof.
