Description
Gleesons is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It has two storeys and a three-cell plan, although the service cell on the right is now part of the adjoining house and has been altered in the 19th century, so it is not of special interest. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a glazed pantiled roof featuring axial chimneys made of red brick. The windows are mainly early 19th century three-light casements, and there is a glazed 20th-century entrance door. The parlour cell has a cross-wing form with fully exposed framing and chamfered ceiling joists laid flat. It features a butt-purlin roof with a collar-beam at the open truss instead of a tie-beam, and arched open fireplaces are present in both the parlour and the chamber above. The hall range was originally built with one storey and attics, but in the 19th century, the walls were raised and a new roof with a shallower pitch was added.
