Description
No. 3 Ford is a shop that was originally two shops and flats, dating from around 1600, with some alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed, roughcast, and colourwashed, topped with a plain tile roof. It features a two-storey range that runs east-west, with a first-floor gabled section that juts out at the west end. There is a later single-storey extension attached to the west gable, and the rear has a 20th-century brick outshut.
The facade includes a 20th-century display window and door beneath the jettied section. A bressumer is supported by five arched braces. On the first floor, there is one 20th-century two-light casement window. To the right of the facade, there are two 20th-century casements on the ground floor and a late 19th-century shopfront with a door at the east end, which has been extended diagonally with a 20th-century addition. The first floor has two late 19th-century canted bay windows with casements, along with a 20th-century casement window to the left. The roof is gabled and has a stack on the rear slope.
Inside, the ground floor features a sunk quadrant-moulded spine beam with two wide fillets on the soffit, jowled principal studs, and tie beams that were formerly supported by straight braces. The cross-gabled western section has tie beams on knuckle braces, and the roof is boarded and plastered.
