Description
Wayside Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a steeply pitched plain tiled roof. The cottage has a small three-cell lobby entry plan and is two storeys high. The entrance is located to the right of the centre and consists of a 20th-century door set within an early 19th-century doorcase, which includes fluted half columns with concealed capitals and a panelled frieze. The windows are four-over-eight pane flush frame architraved sashes, with larger windows on the ground floor that have hoodboards. The eaves are boxed, and there is an axial ridge stack positioned to the right of centre. To the left, there is a service end with a pantiled lean-to outshut, and on the right end, there is a single-storey 20th-century addition. The first floor features a two-light casement window, and the exposed plates and purlins are visible. At the rear, there is a continuous clay lump lean-to addition. The interior includes some exposed framing of small scantling on the ground floor, while the first floor has not been inspected.
