Description

The premises occupied by Chilvers (Drapery Stores) are located in Botesdale Market Place and date from the early 19th century. The building was reduced in height in the early 20th century and features white brick with some red brick, along with a stuccoed ground floor. It has a shallow hipped slate roof and consists of three bays over two storeys, with a cellar, having originally been three storeys tall.

The ground floor shop facade includes three large 16-pane windows, which are flanked by four pairs of stucco pilasters. The inner doors are recessed and consist of four panels with rectangular fanlights above. There is also a fascia board with a cornice. On the first floor, there are three recessed glazing bar sashes with gauged brick flat arched heads and boxed eaves.

The right return of the building continues the shop front, featuring a 16-pane window with flanking pilasters and a first-floor sash window. At the rear right, there is a broad extruded white brick stack adjoining Honister House. The left return is made of red brick and includes a cellar window with a cambered head. To the rear left, there is a lower two-storey red brick and pantiled bay that has a 24-pane former butcher's shop window with pilasters and an entablature, along with a first-floor three-light casement and a projection for a cellar entrance with a large door.
