Description
Grove Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century that was reroofed in the 19th century and retains some older timber elements. It features a timber frame with plastered walls and a pantile roof. There is a late 19th or 20th-century extension at the rear. The building is 1½ storeys high and consists of two cells with a lobby entry. A chimney stack bay is located at the rear. The main elevation has a 19th-century entrance porch, and there is a second entrance on the right side. The original structure has a brick plinth on all sides, braced corner uprights, and much original studding with brick infill. The posts are jowled to tie beams and to the chimney stack bay at the rear. The axial beam and joists in the left-hand cell date to the 17th century, while the floor in the right-hand cell is from the 19th century. The right gable end features studding, and there are cambered bressummer lintels above the fireplaces that heat each cell.
