Description
Islay House is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It has a timber frame with lath and plaster infill, and a late 18th-century rendered brick casing. The roof is gabled and covered with pantiles. The house features a lobby entrance and has a two-cell plan, with two storeys. The central door is set under a segmental arch, flanked by three 19th-century casement windows on the ground floor, also under similar arches. There is one window on the first floor, and a ridge stack is positioned over the door. At the rear, there is a flat-topped two-storey extension added in the mid-20th century.
Inside, the original framing is intact, with tongue and roll stops on the main beams. The fireplaces are original, and there is a winder staircase next to the stack. Additionally, there are remains of two timber mullioned sliding shutter windows in the east wall of the north room.
