Description
The Old Wheelwrights is a house with a core dating from the 17th century, likely built in several phases, and altered in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with plaster, and the right wing retains some old plaster panels. The roofs are covered with glazed black pantiles and the building has two storeys. The front range was raised about one metre in the mid-19th century, giving it a symmetrical facade from that period. It has two windows with flush-frame sashes that include glazing bars. The doorcase has moulded jambs, an entablature, and a flat hood, with a six-panel door and a plain rectangular fanlight. There is a central stack with a white brick shaft. To the right, there is a small late 17th-century wing that extends to the rear, featuring a steeply-pitched roof and a small gable stack. Some 17th-century studding is visible inside. The building is included for its group value.
