Description
The walling to the road curtilage of Abbey Farmhouse is a Grade II listed structure. It is a boundary wall that extends south from the main entrance to Abbey Farmhouse for approximately 90 meters, then turns the corner and continues eastward for another 60 meters. The northernmost section of the wall likely dates back to the 13th century and is part of the remains of a small Benedictine Priory. This section is constructed of flint rubble with some coursed work, and it has undergone later repairs, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries, using red brick mainly on the west side. The wall stands about 2.5 meters high. The remainder of the wall is made of red brick from the late 18th or 19th century, predominantly featuring dark headers and laid in Flemish bond, with a height of 2 to 2.5 meters. A corner section was rebuilt in the mid-20th century.
