Description
This is a mid 16th century barn, aligned east-west and located 50 metres north of the Church of St. Mary. The barn has five bays, with the easternmost bay originally used for stabling. Around 1600, two additional bays for stabling, complete with a loft above, were added to the eastern end. The barn features a gabled midstrey at the centre of the north side and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding. It has a Roman pantiled roof that is half-hipped at the right-hand end. The barn doors from the 19th or 20th century are boarded, and there are also boarded stable doors at the eastern end bays. The structure displays good close-studding, primarily with arch wind-bracing. Inside, there is a queen-post roof with jowled square posts that are arch-braced to square-set purlins and collars. The stable area has unchamfered upper floor joists, arch stud-bracing, and a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof.
