Description

South Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the late 16th century, with a 19th-century addition on the right side. The roof over the main part of the building was replaced with a shallower pitch, likely during the 19th century. The structure is timber framed with ashlar-lined plasterwork and features a pantiled roof. The 19th-century addition is partly made of colourwashed brick and has slightly lower eaves. The farmhouse is two storeys high and follows a three-cell lobby entry layout. It has 19th-century casement windows, along with two original windows that have diamond mullions, one of which has had its mullions renewed. There are also two original windows at the rear. The front entrance features a 20th-century boarded door, while the addition has a second boarded door from the 19th century. Inside, there is an internal stack with a rendered shaft and a smaller later stack between the two sections. Much of the timber frame is exposed on the interior, except at the service end where the timbers are concealed. The studding in the hall indicates where large windows once were. The parlour has a chamfered-joist ceiling, and there is an original newel stair.
