Description
Burnthouse Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse that was burnt out around 1880, after which the upper floor was rebuilt. The structure features a roughcast and colourwashed timber frame on a brick plinth, with some areas having a brick skin. It has machine tile roofs and a lobby entrance plan, standing two storeys high with a dormer attic.
The south facade has a four-window range. To the right of the center is a late 19th-century two-storey porch, which includes a wide late 20th-century glazed door with sidelights, all under a hood mould with label stops. The upper floor has one late 20th-century three-light casement, while the ground floor is lit by three late 20th-century four-light casements. The first floor features three similar three-light casements, and all openings have hood moulds on label stops.
The gabled roof has one gabled dormer on the eaves line fitted with a two-light late 20th-century casement. There is a late 19th-century ridge stack with three polygonal flues and a stepped external gable-end stack to the west. At the rear, there are two gabled service wings with 19th and 20th-century casements.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a timber frame with jowled principal posts, chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops on the ground floor, and a stick-baluster staircase.
