Description

North Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse with two distinct sections, representing alterations to a largely medieval building, with an early 17th century cross-wing added to the southwest. The house was modernised in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed and roughcast-rendered with a pantiled roof. The building is two storeys high and features small-paned casement windows from the mid-20th century. A half-glazed 4-panel door is found in the earlier section of the house. A substantial internal stack sits between the two ranges. The cross-wing retains its exposed floor structures, featuring plain and slightly chamfered joists. One wall displays intact studwork and two original windows; one of these has a transom and ovolo mullions with small diamond glazing bars. The medieval section includes the lower bay of the original hall and a service cell, with heavy, plain joists and evidence of a service partition. The walls were raised in the 18th or 19th century.
