Description
This barn, located 60 meters east of Onehouse Hall, dates back to the early 16th century. Originally consisting of seven long bays, it underwent significant remodeling of bays six and seven at the west end around 1600. Additionally, a two-bay neat-house, which served as a cow shed or stable, was added to the west in the late 17th century. The barn is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with an aluminum sheeted roof that was formerly thatched.
On the south side, there are two sets of boarded barn doors, which were renewed in the late 20th century, located in bays three and six. The 16th-century structure is notable for its high-quality construction, featuring massive close studding with long tension bracing, and a middle rail present only in the north wall. The original tie-beam braces have been replaced by 19th-century knees. The roof has been altered to a coupled-rafter design. Around 1600, additional trusses and a new windbraced clasped purlin roof were added in bays five, six, and seven, while the original hipped roof was remodeled over the remaining bays. The neat-house retains close studding and once had an upper floor, with 20th-century casements installed.
