Description
Yeoman's Cottage is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with alterations made in the early 17th century. It has two storeys and a three-cell plan. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a concrete tiled roof that was originally thatched. There is an axial chimney, with the shaft rebuilt in 19th-century red brick. The cottage features 19th and 20th-century small-pane casements and a 20th-century boarded and battened door located on the south garden side at the cross-entry position.
The hall and service cell at the eastern end are from the mid-16th century, showcasing heavy unmoulded framing, unchamfered floor joists, and evidence of a diamond mullioned window. Around 1600, a parlour block was added, which also retains unmoulded framing. The main beams are notable for their lambstongue chamfer stops, and there are unchamfered joists along with blocked windows that were likely of ovolo-mullioned design.
