Description
The Warren is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. It has two storeys and features four windows. The building is timber-framed and roughcast, topped with a pantiled roof that includes an axial chimney, which was rebuilt in 19th century red brick. The windows are primarily mid-20th century casements, although there is one exposed and glazed 3-light diamond mullioned window from the 16th century. The entrance is a 20th-century pantiled gabled porch with a boarded and battened door.
Inside, heavy mid-16th century framing members are visible, including close-studding with arch windbracing. There is a bridging beam with a broad chamfer and broach-stopped ends. The roof structure features a queenpost design with jowled posts and square-set purlins over the left-hand cell, which was largely rebuilt at a lower pitch in the 19th century. The right-hand block, also originating from the 16th century, was originally 1.5 storeys until it was altered in the 19th century. A large central chimney made of orange brick from the 16th century has back-to-back open fireplaces that have been modified.
