Description
The Mendham War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1921 and later updated to honor those who fell in the Second World War.
It is made of stone and features a cross with lead lettering. The memorial has a three-stepped base that supports a tapering square plinth. Atop the plinth is a rough-hewn shaft and a wheel cross. On the front (north) face of the plinth, there is a dedication in raised lettering that reads 'TO THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE/ WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918'. The names of the Fallen from the First World War are inscribed on either side of the plinth. Additionally, a dedication to the Fallen of the Second World War, along with their names, has been added to the north face of the top tier of the base.
