Description
This is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is a mix of rendered and colour-washed timber framing and brick, with a slate roof. Some parts have a hipped roof, while a central ridge and end stacks are constructed of gault brick. Originally, the main facade faced the street and included a cross wing on the right. Over time, a rear wing was added, and the entire structure was enclosed and given a 19th-century roof.
The front facing the garden has a symmetrical arrangement of five windows, with mid- to late 18th-century 6/6 sash windows, all with cambered heads, on the ground floor and similar windows above. A part-glazed door with an overlight sits to the far left. The street-facing front has a four-window arrangement of casements and 2-light wooden mullion and transom windows. The central right side of the street front contains the entrance, defined by a moulded hood supported by brackets and featuring part-glazed double doors. The rear elevation incorporates four late 19th-century 6/2 sashes, casements, and a French window.
Inside, a curving stick-baluster staircase is present. One room on the garden front retains its original 18th-century panelling with 2- and 6-panel doors. Evidence of original timber framing, including jowled posts and coupled rafter roofs, can still be seen in the main range and cross wing, now concealed by the 19th-century roof structure.
