Description

This is a range of early 19th century houses built of grey Gault brick. The building is three storeys high and has a seven-window frontage. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. On the first storey, alternate windows have stucco pilasters and cornices, with a three-light window in the centre. Stucco bands run at the window sill levels of the first and second storeys, and the front of the building features rusticated stucco quoins. The ground floor now contains 20th-century shops, and a central entrance features a six-panel door with a semi-circular fanlight in a stucco surround. The roofs are slate, with a dentilled eaves cornice. Nos 8 to 12, Orwell Place form a group with Nos 9 to 13 on the opposite side of the street.
