Description
Cranfield Court is a set of almshouses designed as flats, built between 1938 and 1939 by Cautley and Barefoot for the Cranfield family charitable settlement. The buildings are constructed of red brick with plain-tile hipped roofs and brick stacks, showcasing a Vernacular Revival style. They are two storeys high, and the front facing Chelsworth Avenue features paired half-hipped gables that project forward. The windows consist of 1 to 3-light leaded casements, and there are various doors throughout. The rear facade, which is similar to the front, has gables that face the rear of Nos. 1-28 Cranfield Court. This group of almshouses forms a cohesive architectural ensemble with Nos. 1-28, the Lodge, and the Lych-gate.
