Description

Whitehouse Farmhouse is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 15th century, with additions from the early 17th and later 18th or 19th centuries. The house is divided into three distinct sections. The original central section is a one-and-a-half bay hall with service rooms to the right, which was raised approximately 3 meters and re-roofed in the early 18th century. An early 17th-century parlour addition was built to the left, while a further addition, with a pantiled roof, dates from the later 18th or 19th century. The parlour addition has exposed timber framing on the first floor and retains its original newel stairs, with a tier of three cupboards on the ground floor, believed to be original. Alongside the stairs is a mid-20th century lean-to porch and a boarded and battened entrance door. Most of the windows are 20th-century casements, though one original moulded mullion window remains at the rear of the parlour on the first floor. The house contains an internal stack.
