Description

Nos 28B, 28C, and 28D form a two-storey building on the north-east side of Church Street, dating from the early 17th century and subsequently altered. The exterior is rendered in stucco. The first floor features three three-light casement windows and a canted bay window to the right. The roof is tiled. The ground floor has a modern shop front to the left, with a central entrance and an optician’s window in the centre, and a splay bay window to the right. The property at No 28B, formerly a mason's workshop, retains early 17th-century timber framing and a mantelpiece inside. It is believed that the building was formerly The Castle Inn, operating until 1949. Nos 2 to 30 (even) are grouped together as a unified architectural composition.
