Description

Carlton Cross is a house dating from the late 15th century to early 16th century. It is timber framed, with modern roughcast render and a pantiled roof. The building is single storey with an attic and was originally a hall house, featuring a cross passage and a service end to the east. It has mid 20th century casement windows, a mid 20th century boarded half-door, and an open timber porch. There is one catslide dormer on each roof slope and an internal stack. An arched doorway remains at the service end, along with the original stairs. The centre truss of the former open hall features a cambered tie beam, although the crown post is not visible.
