Description
This is a house with a core dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, originally a farmhouse with a roughly L-shaped layout, and remodelled in the early 19th century. The original timber-framed structure has a plastered facade and colourwashed brick to the right-hand return front, with a roof tiled in slate to the front and plain tiles to the rear. The roofline of the main facades has been raised to accommodate sash windows, with the upper parts of many first-floor windows being false, opening onto a simulated roof slope. The main facade has five windows arranged unevenly, with sashes and glazing bars set in flush frames. An asymmetrical doorway is sheltered by a semi-circular-roofed porch supported by slender columns, each column formed from a cluster of four shafts, with a fluted frieze, cornice, and panelled soffit. The porch contains a six-panel door and a semi-circular fanlight, with panelled reveals. A late 19th-century extension has been added to the left side of the porch. The right-hand return front has six windows with inset sashes and glazing bars, set within flat brick arches. A full-height semi-circular bay window with three lights and a moulded brick band is located at the gable end.
