Description

Probably dating from the 16th century, these are now three cottages, originally a single house located on Church Lane in Kelsale-cum-Carlton. The central cottage has a roof lining dated 1664. The cottages are timber framed and have modern roughcast rendering, with a pantiled roof. The building is two storeys and has an attic. There is a three-window front; mid-20th century casement windows are present at No.3, while Nos. 1 and 2 have smaller 19th-century casements. Two boarded doors are visible, with the doorway to No.3 located in the gable end. A catslide-roofed dormer is also present. Two internal stacks are present; one has a moulded brick base which is now mostly rendered, and the other is at the rear. No.3 retains fine, closely-spaced timbering, alongside some original doors and floorboards. Nos. 1 and 2 have some exposed timbering. The eaves of Nos. 1 and 2 were raised by approximately one metre, likely in the mid-17th century.
