Description

The White Horse is a public house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a mid-19th century facade and a late 19th century single-storey wing set forward on the right side. The building is timber framed, with white brick casing on the left gable and most of the facade, while the remainder is plastered. The roof is mostly pantiled, except for a small section of the front slope which is plaintiled. It has two storeys and an attic, following a three-cell plan.

The facade features three windows, which are two-light small pane casements with hood moulds above, and two four-light canted bay windows on the ground floor. The entrance is a lobby with a mid-19th century gabled porch that has ornamental bargeboards and a spike finial, leading to a six-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. Above the door, there is a small carved wooden horse on the hood mould.

Inside, there is an internal stack with three linked flues set diamondwise and an external stack on the right gable that matches the style of the building. The right gable has two original five-light moulded mullion windows at the first floor level, while the left gable features two leaded windows and there is an original diamond mullion window at the rear. The interior showcases some good exposed timbering, original newel attic stairs, and some re-used 16th century panelling on the first floor.
