Description
Elms Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse that features a timber-framed and plastered structure, with the left gable end rebuilt in red brick and a plaintiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form that originally included a cross passage entry. It has various casement windows from the 18th and 19th centuries, and a lobby entrance with a 19th-century four-panel door. There is an internal stack and a single-storey colourwashed brick lean-to on the right side. Inside, the farmhouse boasts fine exposed framing with closely spaced studwork in the right-hand cell. The original square-headed paired service doorways from the cross passage are still intact, along with original newel stairs comprising two flights, original floorboarding, and some original doors.
