Description

Bridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been divided into two dwellings. The main part of the building dates back to the late 14th century and features a two-bay raised aisled hall. To the left is an early 16th-century parlour wing, while a service wing from the 18th century is on the right, replacing the original service range. The building was further extended to the left in the early 20th century. It is timber framed with modern roughcast render and has a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left side. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has various 19th and 20th-century casement windows, along with a mid-20th-century door and a semi-circular thatched hood. Two of the first-floor windows are located within a large mid-20th-century eyebrow half-dormer. Inside, there are two internal stacks, and the raised aisle structure is largely intact. The central truss features heavy arched bracing and simple roll moulding, with broach stops at the bases of the arcade posts. The framing of the lower gable end of the hall remains mostly intact, and the gable wall in the roof space retains original plasterwork, which is an unusual survival. There is a simple crown post with a square section and broach stops, braced one-way to the collar purlin. Much of the original roof structure is still present, heavily sooted, and exposed joists are visible in the inserted floor. The parlour has fine exposed joists on the ground floor, evidence of original first-floor windows, and a queen post roof.
