Description

Cumberland House, on Cumberland Street, was originally built in the 17th century, with its exterior remodelled in the 18th century around 1852. It is a two-story and attic building with a double-span roof running parallel to the road. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a brick plinth, ā€œVā€ jointed rusticated quoins, and a band at the first floor level and below the parapet, incorporating blank panels. There are five windows, all sash windows in flush frames. The central window on the first floor is a three-light splayed oriel with enriched mullions, with an arched centre light and enriched key detail. A small, additional window is located on the left side. Some ground floor windows have been fitted with modern glazing bars. The ground floor windows are fitted with three-panel, head-moulded shutters. The main entrance is a six-panel, fielded door within a wooden case featuring fluted Doric three-quarter columns, egg and dart moulding to the capitals, triglyphs, and rosettes set within recessed panels between. The panels also feature a cutular segmental pediment. One room contains an Adam plaster ceiling and cornice.
