Description

There are two headstones located approximately 12 metres southeast of the Church of St Edmund in Southwold. The headstones date from the early 18th century and one is specifically dated 1718. Both are made of limestone. The northern headstone features a shouldered segmental top and has an inscription commemorating James Cotton, although the date is indecipherable. The southern headstone has a bifurcated top with stylised floral carving in relief and commemorates Richard Cotton, who died in 1718.
