Description
The Brampton War Memorial is located prominently beside the main entrance to the churchyard, southeast of the Church of St Peter, which is a Grade I listed building. The memorial features a simple Latin cross that is octagonal in shape, raised on a two-stage octagonal plinth and a three-stepped square base. It is made from white Sicilian marble.
The main inscription, crafted in leaded lettering on the front face of the plinth, states: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF BRAMPTON WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1919." The names of the First World War casualties are listed on the two faces of the plinth next to the main inscription, with four names on each side.
Additionally, there is an inscription on the north-west face of the plinth that reads "1939–1945" followed by three names. On the front face of the middle base step, another inscription states: "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."
