Description

The house at Buckshorns dates to approximately 1600, with alterations carried out around 1950. It is a timber-framed and plastered building, retaining much of its exposed studwork. The roof is covered in concrete tiles and features gabled casement dormers. A central chimney is constructed from red brick. The windows are 2-light casements with leaded lights. A 2-storey entrance porch, built in the 20th century, has a boarded and battened door. The plan is unusual, comprising two equal cells at ground floor level on either side of a narrow central chimney bay; the first floor contains a single long room at each end. The house retains unchamfered lodged 1st floor joists throughout, which may have been reused from an earlier structure. It has a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. This building is notable despite the 20th-century alterations due to its complete timber-framed structure and unusual form.
