Description
The Hermitage, located at 29 Cumberland Street, is a 16th-century building that stands two stories high with an overhanging first floor. It is timber framed and plastered, with a painted plinth. The roof is tiled, and the eaves have been raised to fit larger mid-19th century windows, which are elliptical headed sashes with two and three lights. The building features a central gable adorned with pierced bargeboards from the mid-19th century. There is also a rear addition from around the same period. The ground floor includes a six-panel door with an architrave and three sash windows with flush frames and glazing bars. Inside, there is a notable early lozenge-shaped plaster ceiling. The Hermitage is part of a group with the adjacent buildings numbered 23 to 31.
