Description
This building is a barn and stable dating from the late 16th century, located 50 metres north-west of Red Court. The structure features five bays, with an additional two bays at the south end that form a stable with a hay-loft above. There is a lean-to midstrey and other extensions from the 19th century. The barn is timber-framed and weather-boarded, with some original wattle-and-daub infill panels still visible. It has a Roman pantiled roof and showcases good close-studwork along with arch-type wind-bracing. The roof is constructed with wind-braced clasped purlins. The upper floor over the stable includes well-crafted chamfered joists. This combination of a barn and stabling in a single range is a rare survival in Suffolk from the 16th century.
