Description
No. 35 High Street is a shop with a flat above, dating from the early 17th century. The building features rendered and colourwashed brick that is scored to imitate ashlar, and it has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall, with a half-glazed door on the right in a timber case and a late 19th-century tripartite horned sash window to the left of the door. On the first floor, there are two 2/2 sash windows. The roof is gabled and has an internal gable-end stack on the north side. The rear elevations and extensions were rebuilt between 1949 and 1950 following bomb damage.
Inside, the ground and first floors have bridging beams with sunk-quadrant mouldings and double jewel stops. A winder staircase leading to the attic survives on the first floor. The roof structure dates from the early 19th century and includes principals, staggered butt purlins, and collars.
