Description
28 High Street is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with mid-19th century windows. It is constructed of red brick laid in header bond and has a roof covered with black-glazed pantiles. The building has two storeys and a dormer attic, arranged in four bays. The entrance features a six-panelled door located in the second bay from the left, set within an eared surround and a pedimented doorcase. The windows are 2/2 sashes without horns, all positioned under gauged skewback arches. A timber modillion eaves cornice runs beneath the gabled roof. There are two pedimented 19th-century dormers with side glazing, which contain late 20th-century windows. Internally, there is a gable-end stack to the north and a closed string staircase with a wreathed handrail supported by 20th-century wrought-iron balustrading. At the rear, a full-height canted bay was added to the east gable of the rear cross wing in the late 19th century, featuring mainly 20th-century windows and details.
