Description
Barretts is a building located on the south side of Thoroughfare, dating from 1852. It features a stucco front block from 1846, with remains of a 17th-century building at the rear, which includes an enriched plaster ceiling. In the kitchen, there is a lead pump marked with the initials RM and K and the date 1783, possibly referring to Richard Morley, a Quaker who once lived here. The building has a Free Renaissance style front with a heavy dentil cornice, a second-floor band, and a first-floor double band. There are four windows on the first and second floors, including one window in a wing to the west, which has a separate entrance. The ground floor has five arches, with the center arch serving as the main entrance. Barretts is part of a group that includes Nos 40 to 44 (even), 52 to 84 (even), and 90 to 94 (even).
