Description

Marsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-16th century, with later alterations and various rear additions, including one from the 17th century. It is timber-framed, featuring an original crowstepped gable end on the left side, while the rest of the building is largely encased in 19th-century red brick. The roof is pantiled, with glazed black tiles on the front slope. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form, and includes four windows with 19th and 20th-century mullion and transom casements that lack glazing bars, all set beneath cambered brick arches.

The entrance features a six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed. Inside, there is an internal stack with a moulded brick base, and the crowstepped gable displays two brick bands and an integral stack. The hall boasts a well-crafted moulded beam and joist ceiling, along with a moulded cornice, although the cornice is missing along the front wall. The moulding continues down the surviving rear wall post. Some studding is exposed in the rear wall, which contains one original window with cavetto-moulded mullions and the remains of another, both located at first-floor level. The hall and parlour fireplaces include some re-used stonework, with the parlour fireplace having been restored in the mid-20th century. The staircase features a newel post, and the roof is supported by two rows of butt purlins and cranked wind-bracing.
