Description

Cottage Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse, originally dating to 1622. The initials “FB 1622 EB” are carved into a first-floor window of the left gable end, signifying the Brock family’s ownership. The building underwent alterations in the late 19th century. The core of the structure is timber-framed, with crowstepped brick gable ends. It is now roughcast-rendered and has a grey brick facade, dating to the late 19th century. The roof is pantiled, with glazed black tiles to the front slope.

The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with four windows on each floor. These windows are tripartite sashes, featuring glazing bars, although the arches have been removed. A mid-20th-century wooden entrance porch was added, incorporating half-round reeded columns and a reeded frieze taken from an earlier 19th-century doorway. The porch contains mid-20th-century glazed doors and a 19th-century rectangular fanlight. There is an external stack at the rear of the building and a smaller external stack set against the right gable end.

The crowstepped gable ends retain remains of original moulded brick finials. The left gable retains two original four-light ovolo-moulded mullion and transom windows.
