Description
The Three Horse Shoes is a public house located on Lowestoft Road in North Cove. It dates from the mid-17th century, with an 18th-century cross wing that is set forward to the right. The older section features a timber-framed core, with the exterior finished in colourwashed brick and a pantiled roof. The building stands two storeys tall, with a small attic room in the main range. It has various small-paned sash windows, and those in the main range are adorned with stuccoed arches that include keys. The entrance door, which is half-glazed, dates from the mid-20th century. Each section of the building has an internal stack, and the position of the stack in the main range suggests that it originally extended further to the right. Inside, much of the 17th-century first-floor structure is visible in the bar area, showcasing ovolo-moulded main beams and square plain joists. On the opposite side of the stack, there are some heavier and evidently earlier joists. The roof over the 17th-century range remains intact.
