Description
Charnwood is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in the late 18th century with early 19th-century additions. It features a combination of white and red Flemish bond brick and has a slate roof. The building stands two and a half storeys tall with an entrance front that has three bays arranged symmetrically. The lower two storeys have round-headed relieving arches, with windows set in slightly recessed panels. The ground floor has a pair of French windows, originally a doorway, with an overlight above. Flanking these are sash windows with four panes by four panes, where the two outer panes are narrower, and each has a decoratively glazed overlight. The first floor has sash windows with four panes by four panes, set on stone sills, with segmental heads that are cut across by the relieving arches. The attic features windows with four panes by two panes. There are two chimney stacks, each with three flues, located at the left and right of the ridge.
On the right side of the building, there are French windows on the left, with a two-light window above on the first floor and a sash window with four panes by four panes in the attic. To the right is a lower, two-storey section and a 20th-century swimming pool addition with a hipped roof. On the left side, the later portion has a cambered-headed sash window on the left and a wrought iron balcony supported on curved brackets in front of a set of French windows in the attic. The earlier, lower portion on the left features a Greek Doric porch with square plinths, a casement window to the left, and two sash windows on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
