Description

The Old Rectory is a rectory, later used as a private house, likely built in the mid to later 18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and subsequent alterations. It is constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond, with a later addition using an English garden wall bond. The roof is slate, with a hipped design on one wing. The building follows a double-depth plan at right angles to the street, with a crosswing added to the south end, creating an entrance front facing the garden.

The main range, originally three storeys high with three windows facing west, features quoins on the left corner and 16-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors. The second floor has smaller 8-pane sashes, all with exposed window boxes, except for a ground-floor bay window on the right side. This bay is a five-sided, flat-roofed structure with small sash windows incorporating margin panes (paired at the front). A projecting, two-storey wing is visible at the south end, with a tall 15-pane sash window and a 9-pane sash, both with segmental heads, on the ground floor. The south front of this wing has similar fenestration, except for a blind window in the centre of the first floor. A square, flat-roofed porch stands to the right, featuring a round-headed doorway with a wooden Roman Doric doorcase, a panelled door, and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. There are chimneys on both gables of the original section and on the wing. The interior has not been inspected.
