Description

French’s Folly is a house dating to the 16th century. It is timber-framed and has been rendered with colourwash, topped with a plain tile roof, originally thatched. The building comprises three rooms arranged vertically. The rear elevation, which serves as the main façade, features plank doors on either side, with 20th-century metal framed casement windows to the ground floor. Similar windows are present on the first floor, alongside windows with diamond-section mullions. A large stack rises from the ridge towards the left of centre, and another stack is located on the right-hand gable end. Later 20th-century windows are found on the remaining sides of the property. Internally, the ground floor retains massive chamfered ceiling beams with exposed plain joists and close studded walling.
