Description

This is a pair of houses, originally one larger property, located on the High Street in Wickham Market. The core of the building dates to the late 18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century, designed to match the earlier style. The houses are constructed of red brick, with No. 187 having a colour-washed exterior. The roofs are covered in black glazed pantiles.

The houses have two storeys and a six-window front. The windows are predominantly mullion and transome casements, with one blocked window above the entrance doorway to No. 187 and a sash window in a flush frame at the south end. Ground-floor windows in No. 187 are casements, while those in No. 183 are sashes in flush frames. All windows are set within gauged brick flat arches.

No. 187 has a portico in the style of "in antis," featuring an eared architrave, entablature and pediment, and a six-panelled door with matching interior linings. No. 183 has a four-panelled door in a plain frame. A moulded timber cornice runs along the eaves. Two square, moulded red brick stacks rise from the ridge of the roof. Group value is evident in the terrace's contribution to the High Street.
