Description

Poplar Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to early 17th century, with the earlier part located to the west. It is a single-range building divided into two sections. The original structure is timber-framed and plastered, while the south side is encased in 19th-century red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The later section has a two-story design with an attic. The windows are casement style. A gabled porch on the south side features a reused 17th-century moulded architrave and a 19th-century half-glazed door, along with scalloped bargeboards. A similar gabled porch exists on the north side. The later section is characterized by a plaster cove eaves cornice. There is one internal and one gable-end stack. A ground floor room in the later section contains a good 17th-century ornamental plaster ceiling, a cased spine beam with moulded enrichment, a moulded plaster cornice, and various motifs including fleur-de-lys and Tudor Rose designs. A 20th-century wing is attached to the north, but it is not of architectural significance.
